Serendipitous technologies: a human-human-machine collaboration

Sometimes the projects that we do at the AGGV do not always ‘fit’ within the standard white-cubed gallery spaces you will find in our building on Moss Street. Sometimes our curatorial projects take place in remote communities, deep in the basement archives, in collaboration with other arts institutions, or in this case, within a kind of algorithmic museum!

Within the Database – Looking to Digital Potentials For Restless Times

Beginning in the summer of 2020, and with the assistance of a Canada Council for the Arts Digital Literacy and Intelligence grant, the AGGV established a cyber support community to assist with the gallery’s increasing need for digital support and guidance as it undertakes a longterm experimental digital project that further considers the connections between digital literacy and curatorial thinking, and how these connections might be applied.

Wild Ceramics from the AGGV’s Collection

A Glimpse into the Life and Work of Paul Horiuchi

Horiuchi was a painter and collagist whose work has become an important hybrid of Western-style abstraction, Asian calligraphy, and eastern philosophies. His body of work has helped situate an alternative narrative to the development of modern art in the Pacific Northwest, one that fully considers Japanese and North American relations.
