When our spring 2020 art camp was unexpectedly cut short and our spring classes cancelled we put on our ole’ thinking caps and started to reimagine what our longstanding and well-loved program could look like under the light of COVID-19.
We sought to honour our vision of fostering an environment where the creative process is celebrated, confidence is nurtured and connections built. After many brainstorming sessions we developed 2 week-long online art experiences in lieu of the classic in-person summer art camp model. We also specially curated individual art experience materials kits that were full of supplies needed to create the art-tastic creations.
Despite being at home we wanted to offer the opportunity to build community and connection by creating together. Over the week, we met at the same time each day for a live online hangout (via Zoom) where we came together as a group, engaged in a little playful warm-up art activity and then dove into our daily art project. These daily hangouts were a beautiful, high energy experience and instrumental in creating, learning and being inspired by one another.
In October, we will continue to offer some more exciting online art experiences that you can be part of from the comfort of your own home. However, we know that for many of you making art in an online class is not quite the same as being at our lovely little Studio, so we will be running a few in-person classes too. Although these classes might look a little different in order to follow public health guidelines, we will still be there to guide, encourage, support, and create a space where creativity flourishes.
This fall we once again invite leaners of all ages to foster their own magical creative voice and embrace the playful process of exploring their imagination in one of our fun-filled classes.
