A Spoon Full of Sugar: Nurturing Performance Art through Partnership

On November 23, 2024, Holly Timpener ascended and descended the staircase in the AGGV Spencer Mansion foyer for nearly 7 hours. Throughout the day, over 100 visitors witnessed Timpener’s intentional series of actions. Toby Lawrence, AGGV Curator of Contemporary Art, shares her thoughts on the performance and the experience it created within the Gallery space.

Brillo Box (3¢ off), screening in the Drury Gallery, explores the journey of an Andy Warhol sculpture from family heirloom to $3M auction piece, highlighting the evolving value of art. It complements the From Warhol to Banksy exhibition at the AGGV, running through April 27, 2025.

The Japanese-Canadian Community & the Arts Community: An Interview with Bryce Kanbara

Hamilton based artist Bryce Kanbara is not only the guest curator for AGGV’s upcoming exhibition Start Here: Kiyooka, Nakamura, Takashima, Tanabe, but also the recipient of a 2021 Outstanding Contribution Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts (upcoming exhibition presented by the AGGV in collaboration with the Canada Council for the Arts). In anticipation of these two fall shows, the artist has agreed to share with us a little bit more about his work in an e-interview.
